External SSD Samsung QVO 870 Not Recognized in Disk Utility

Hi guys,

I have an external SSD Samsung QVO 870 which doesn't get recognized by Disk Utility / not visible at Locations. It is formatted in exFat and it works perfectly fine on my Windows PC.

I use a MacBook Pro Late 2013 with macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6 freshly installed.

USB Cable works fine, because it works on other devices.
USB Port also works fine with other things, USB-sticks / other SSD's and what not.
Disk Utility's 'view all' only views the main Apple SSD 500GB
Restarting doesn't do anything, restarting with Cmd + Option + P + R neither.
Checking the drivers of the SSD via Windows, it says: ‘The best drivers for your device are already installed.’
SMC Reset didn't do anything.

Why can't it read an exFat formatted 4TB external SSD?

Any advanced suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try a PRAM Reset? Hold the PRAM Reset for at least two chimes.

Try booting into Safe Mode in case you have some third party software installed that is interfering.

Does the issue occur with both USB ports?

Make sure to disconnect all other external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

Are you connecting the SSD directly to the laptop?

What enclosure, adapter, drive dock are you using to connect the Samsung SSD to this laptop? It may be that the enclosure/adapter/dock is not compatible with a Mac.

You mentioned that this is formatted as exFAT. Was this formatted on the Mac or the PC? Has this ever worked?
