The Messages app doesn’t require that contacts be imported into it. It is aware of the contacts that you have stored in your Contacts app. If you have phone numbers and email addresses stored in Contacts you can use those directly in Messages.


If you want or need to transfer contact information from your iPhone to your Mac or iPad, you need to enable Contacts to sync in iCloud.
