It doesn’t matter. You can use the phone while charging it, and charge it to whatever level you want to. Going forward the best practice is to charge it overnight, every night, and enable automatic iCloud backups so it backs up the phone every night. Go to settings[your name]/iCloud and turn on iCloud Backup.
