RAID 10 with OS X Raid Assistant on Big Sur - Any Downsides?
Lifewire published an article about creating a RAID 10 array using OS X Raid Assistant in Big Sur..
https://www.lifewire.com/what-is-raid-10-2260274
It says: "Creating a RAID 10 array in Disk Utility requires you to first create two pairs of RAID 1 (Mirror) arrays, and then use them as the two volumes to be combined into a RAID 0 (Striped) array."
I have created a RAID 10 array with 4x Seagate Exos 16TB in an OWC ThunderBolt 4 enclosure. It appears to function as expected and performs very well. This will be the primary backup for a Synology NAS.
I chose OS X RAID vs SoftRAID to eliminate dependency on 3rd party software.
Does anyone see a potential downside to using nested OS X RAID arrays in this fashion???
Thanks for any comments. Ron
