Cancel migration assistant process

I am upgrading to a new MacBook Pro with the migration assistant. It seems to have stalled, it’s been saying 4 hrs left for ages now.

Can I cancel it and start again. Will it erase everything or will it continue from where it stopped?

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749

If that opportunity has past, the second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
