Does word excel powerpoint apps work in ipad pro and do they offer all or limited functions? My daughter wants to purchase one instead of a MacBook Air but I was wondering if she’ll be able to use all the functions of the office programs she needs for school /university.

The iOS/iPadOS Office suite requires a 365 subscription to provide maximum functionality which around $8 dollars a month.
Word is pretty much the same as other platforms for 365 versions . The oddity is the the save as doesn't exist more rather save a copy
Excel works with most medium complexity formulas and sheets however so much with complex data science and engineering sheets.

For school and under graduate studies in the most part they work pretty well as described.
However for extended work flows id excluding art and drawing I would probably go with a Macbook Air to be honest.
