iPhone 13 pro - 5G mmWave

Will the feature (5G mmWave) work in India if the iPhone is bought from USA?

(The models that are bought in US will have 5G mmWave)

Iphones are excluded from Apples world wide product warranties . The warranty support is only available in the country or in the case of the EU the single market from where they were purchased.

A US or EU phone has no support in India as a already been pointed out by another poster .

This “IMPORTANT RESTRICTION FOR iPHONE, iPAD, APPLE TV and HOMEPOD SERVICE.

Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and HomePod to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.

That would depend on your cellular provider as they would have to provide this level of cellular service.

The other issue you will come across is if this iPhone needs to be repaired, you would have to ship it back to someone you know in the USA for them to take it in for servicing. That is because Apple does not provide an International warranty on iPhones. That also means that you will bear the cost for shipping both ways.

mmWave will only work in India if India Cellular carriers broadcase on that spectrum. To my knowledge, it is not currently supported in India. So having a phone with mmWave capabilities would not provide any benefit.

And as already noted above, your phone will have NO warranty in India. If the phone needs warranty support or replacement, it will require the phone be exchanged/serviced in the US.

First and foremost MM Wave 5G is several years away anywhere in India: the spectrum hasn't even be offered or tendered out.

Much of the standard sub 6GHz 5G spectrum won't even be tendered before end 2022 at the earliest.

Now for a more technical perspective sub 6GHz will almost certainly be preferred across the Indian networks as it requires fewer towers and has a longer range.

MM waves advantage would be within the very dense cities with lots of tall steel and concrete offices, where it will penetrate somewhat better than sub 6GHz, however the range is significantly shorter so far far more tower transmitters will be needed; that why places such as NewYork, Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul require it.

So aside from the fact your potential US phone import won't have ANY WARRANTY locally, it will almost certainly only connect on 3G/4G and more rarely on what there is on the sub 6GHz 5G anywhere in India - the question remains why bother?

The 5G capabilities are largely hypothetical in India and indeed in much of the world to right now.

Unless you intend to buy personally (or via a friend /family or risky third party willing to ship it to you) in the USA and directly from an Apple retail store how exactly do you expect to get one anyway?

By the time you add sales taxes and shipping (if you can get someone to ship it) and perhaps a handling fee plus Indian import duties your $990 phone will actually cost YOU = $1,628.40 at todays prices and including Indian import duties that are due.

The India Price with full local warranty and support is ₹1,19,900 which surprisingly is $1,626.89 !!!!

So really you aren't exactly getting ripped off locally !
