I can't edit an entry with Bing search engine in Safari

I was having this issue and a quick search found a YouTube video that answered it.

To stop this happening, in bing settings, turn off search suggestions (menu bar too right, settings, more, scroll down to search suggestions and untick).

It is very much a problem with Safari on both Bing and MSN.com websites. I was trying to help another user resolve this yesterday. The solution of turning off search suggestions helps, but as others noted, doesn't stick and fails in private mode.

The sure fire solution is to use https://DuckDuckGo.com instead. You get the Bing results, but without the pain in the rear UI problem. If you have specific need for the actual Bing interface, now and then, then add !b in front of your search on Duck Duck Go. For example, a search for Best Private Search Engines would instead be !b Best Private Search Engines in order have DDG anonymously pass your search to Bing directly. The same goes for !g if you want Google.

Going to settings and turning off search suggestions does work, BUT only during the current session that the device (MacBook Pro, for me) is turned on. The "solution", at least for me, must be repeated every time I turn on my laptop. That is very disappointing, to say the least.

It still does the same bad behavior in Safe Mode

I have the exact same issue with Bing not allowing me to edit the text in a search bar after I've typed it. Any attempt in Safari to go back and edit the Bing web page search criteria causes the cursor to move to the end of the search bar, and not stay where I put it to edit the search. I would add that I have tried the Safe Boot mode and have the same results. This doesn't appear to be a Bing issue, as I can launch the EDGE or CHROME browser and navigate to Bing, and it works as expected....allowing the editing of search terms.

I have this issue with Bing on my iPad and iPhone. It doesn’t happen on my PC, but it does happen in Safari and Chrome on the iphone and ipad. Any character or even backspace entered into the middle of an existing line on the search causes the cursor to jump to the end of the text.

You are a genius to think about using YouTube for Tech Support. That fixed my issue as well. I was convinced it was a Safari issue, because I also have Chrome and Edge installed on this same Mac, and they behaved themselves. It was only Bing in Safari.

When you do a Bing search, take a look at the search results page. On the upper right of that page there are three bars. Click on that to find settings. Then click on More. You’ll find the tick box in More.

I am also having this issue. It is happening in the Bing search box, but I am using Safari on iPad 14.8

Yes this does work, but sadly NOT if you use a Private Window when it won't retain the cookie setting that this action creates.

Unless anyone has found a way to make it 'stick' in PW browsing too?
