Apple Watch features

I have the Apple Watch 5. Is there a way I can change the settings to do what my phone does. I have it picked for “mirror my phone” but specifically when I delete messages from my phone, they are still on my watch. Or when I read a message on my phone, it will not show its read on my watch. Which means it’s telling me I have X amount of unread messages and I really don’t. I’ve tried resetting and updating, but no luck.
