How to update my iPhone when it says I'm up to date?

I always update my phone and tablet as soon as there is an update is available....but I am only on 12.5.4 and everything says I am up to date and there are no updates available. So how do I get to 14.8??

Your device is up to date for the most recent iOS version available that is compatible with your hardware. The over the air update system only ever offers the most recent version available based on the hardware it detects you’re using.

You meed an iPhone 6S or newer to run iOS 14.
