Touch ID sensor not working on iPad

Touch ID is no longer working on my iPad 6th Gen. It's just been 3 years since I bought it and, despite treating it with proper care all this time, the functionality is suddenly broken. I have tried multiple methods including deleting the stored fingerprints, restarting the iPad etc. and whatever was mentioned on https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207537 but I just keep getting “Failed—unable to complete Touch ID setup” the moment I try to add a fingerprint or try to enable one of the functions that use Touch ID. The iPad does not even wait to let me try and register a fingerprint before throwing an error! Can someone please give any suggestions that have worked for them?

Finally managed to chat but the results were hardly helpful. The disappointment continues.

I appreciate your effort troubleshooting your device, but since the issue still persists, I recommend that you bring it to an Apple Authorized Service Providers to have your device checked physically.

I am sorry, but the issue with the Touch ID could be a hardware or software issue and it can't be resolved with remote troubleshooting.

Your device need to inspect and check by our technician.

Since you have already followed the troubleshooting steps in this article, our next option is to have it checked by our technician:
