i need to do a factory reset on my iphone and i'm scared !

Ok i've been told by my mobile phone provider that i need to do a factory reset on my mobile phone to fix a problem, i'm reluctant to do it of fear of losing everything. I need to connect my iphone to my macbook to do it but i've no cable, so i'm presuming i need to use blutooth ?
