Can not activate Ipad

After backing up my Ipad2, a message appeared to hit an option to reactivate. I hit the option, but a Message isppears noting it cannot be activated since the server is temporary unavailable. After half a dozen tries overt several hours the same message. I can not login and use my device.

How to proceed?

1. Start with a restart - Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

2. Try recovery mode - If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
