Unable to see import folder in mail

This problem has been coming up for at least 14 years with many incarnations, but no good answers. Does anyone know what to do if you import an Apple mailbox (*.mbox) archive and then cannot locate the "import" mailbox in the sidebar?

Does it have something to do with subfolders?

Please help if you know the secret sauce.

For me, they appear at the bottom of "On My Mac".

If you don't see anything under "On My Mac", you may have to open it: hover the cursor near the words "On My Mac", and you should see a circled + and a little > sign. Click this to disclose the contents.

Luis,
Thanks for the tips, but I should have mentioned that I've checked all of the mailboxes without luck. I don't store emails on my local drive, so the only mailboxes in "On My Mac" are two recovered messages folders, one for Google, and one for iCloud. No "Imports" mailbox.
Other ideas?

Have you tried searching?

I typed the word Import into the search box:

Then clicked the line that says "Mailbox contains: Import" and it selected in my sidebal all three mailboxes that included the word Import. Two of them were actually resulting from imports that I did while researching the problem in this thread.

Note: when you select the mailboxes to import and click Continue to initiate the import, you can tell the import failed because you get the following message instantly, whereas importing large folders with many mailboxes should take measurable time. However the message below suggests that the import completed normally and there is no indication of what went wrong.

Completion message:

You can find the imported mailboxes in the folder named "Import" in the mailboxes list.

Just checking to see if anyone has found a solution to this problem. It's such basic functionality that I hope there is some workaround or fix.

In an old community post, someone suggested deleting the .mbox extension of the parent folder in the mailbox. I tried that and actually got an Import folder created, but it contained a few random emails out of the 1000's that I wanted to import from that mailbox. Repeat attempts had the same result. Still nothing useful. This is an important email archive that was exported from Apple mail last year and that I really need to import.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks
