how do I fix checking for null while downloading big Sur in my macOS Sierra ?

Big Sur 11.2.3 fails to install on my iMac. It downloads then says it's preparing and after 10 minutes I get a message that it failed to download although it obviously did download. Anyone else experiencing this problem and how did you resolve it? Bug Sur 11.2.3 fails to install. On my iMac. macOS Big Sur is Compatible with these Computers and if this computer is Not Listed - it does not Qualify for the Big Sur upGrade.
