White screen when zooming

Since you're running an earlier iOS version, you may consider updating the iOS after you create a backup of your iPhone: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

The iOS 15 update does include enhancements to photos which may benefit you.

It sounds like when you use the camera you can see the preview until you attempt to zoom in on the image, then it turns white, correct?

Does this happen with both the front and rear camera?

Which iOS are you running currently? You can go to Settings > General > About to locate the version.
