Itunes requires that your computer is running windows 10 but it IS running windows 10

I'm trying to update itunes and have spent hours scouring web articles trying to find a solution to no avail.

I'm running the latest update as of today (9/21/21) Windows 10 Home edition version 21H1 OS build 19043.1273 Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0 and have a 64 bit system.

I've downloaded the latest itunes from apple and it's giving me "Itunes requires that your computer is running windows 10"

I've done multiple restarts, completely uninstalled the previous version of itunes (which I'm starting to regret now) and can't find any ideas.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Chipperzed,

Thanks for reaching out using Apple Support Communities. Here to help.

It sounds like you are having trouble updating or installing iTunes. We also understand you have uninstalled your previous copy of iTunes and are trying to download again.

We wanted to share the following resource, as iTunes does have multiple components that need to be removed in order for proper uninstallation. Take a look at this article and ensure all components related to iTunes were also removed. This does not impact your iTunes media library files.

Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later

Once iTunes and related software components are removed, the following link should support you in locating download of iTunes.

Download and use iTunes for Windows

Additionally, you can also find iTunes as an application download in the Microsoft Store.

Hope this helps. Let us know if we can assist any further.

Yes, I tried those items already. I actually ended up going to Microsoft support as the issue is with windows not correctly identifying which version it is.

I had to go to www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

select Download now next to “Create Windows installation media”. Several hours later after it reinstalled windows 10 iTunes just now was able to be installed.
