I too uses significant locations to track my work time but has changed after updating to iOS15. This is what support responded to my inquiry, “I wanted to let you know that the issue that you called to report recently about the significant location history being gone has gotten the attention of the engineering team and they have responded. They say that this change is expected and normal to iOS 15. If you dislike the change, they recommend leaving feedback about it at apple.com/feedback.”. 🤦‍♂️. What’s the point of having Significant Locations if it doesn’t show the info. I hope they bring this feature back.

According to a post above this feature has been removed from ios15 (ridiculous) see the below response, I would recommend filling In a feedback request if enough people complain hopefully they will bring the feature back.

I have found a way around this, if you do not have a Mac or it’s not showing. you can not see the whole records in one report, but if manually change your date on your phone to the date of locations you want to see, your significant locations will show the locations of that date. You will also need to change the time, I found that if I wanted to view report from 3pm I had to put the date to around 7pm for it to appear, and earlier ones may disappear as it only shows a couple at a time. But have a mess around with the date and times and you’ll be able to piece together a whole log of the locations. Hope this works, this is the closest I’ve found and most simple.

Just spoke to my third senior Apple advisor

in 10 days. Was guaranteed last week Saturday that I would receive a return phone call from an engineer this evening, they even specified an exact time. After waiting for an hour and no return phone call, I called them….again.

It boils down to this, we need to go to apple.com back/feedback to get their attention. Specifically using the “feature request“ choice in the drop-down menu so that this issue goes to the correct department. The advisor read to me a previous engineering reply from another caller that indeed stated that this is expected behavior in IOS15. He also said that doesn’t mean that it’s been eliminated but that this is just what engineering is saying, Meaning there is a possibility, however slim, that a workaround could be generated in the next iOS update.I know this isn’t really of any comfort to anyone but it’s all I know.

Not sure if this still works but on another discussion page, a user commented:

I FIGURED IT OUT. If you depend on this information to fill out your payroll I'm right there with you! 😭

Solution? If you have a Mac, you can still view your location history in detail by going into system preferences > security and privacy > *unlocking the lock with your password* > "details" on system preferences. I'm gonna get paid 🥳🥳🥳 Idk how long this will work so have backups in the future in case Apple screws us over again.

For reference my Mac is on Big Sur 11.6

There we go again! In a world where I use to live, if I purchased something and it stopped performing something that it use to do it was called : broken. In this Apple world, Apple breaks my phone on purpose and I just have to accept it. Wow. What a frustratingly broken new world!
Has anyone seen an apology or an explanation for this loss of function?
Oh! I should have known; it probably is virus related...
Please M.Apple, fix our phones!

The "significant locations" still work the way they were always intended to work. They are intended to "Allow your iPhone and iCloud connected devices to learn places significant to you in order to provide useful location-related information in Maps, Calends, Photos, and more". Apple never intended them to be used directly by the end user. There's nothing wrong with the fact people did. However, it needs to be accepted that, when you use an undocumented feature or use a feature in an undocumented way, sometimes, changes in the intended use of the feature will make that impossible.

And, once again, Apple is not reading here for suggestions or feedback. You can let them know your thoughts here:

Meanwhile, there have been several suggestions for alternate solutions in this thread.

Read the question again. Your answer is not the answer what was asked. We need to get the access to significant locations. We know, where we can see it, but it shows only the summary, not every location, as it used to show before Apple took it silently away. . And whoever from Apple suggested this as an answer, should get some dignity!

The answer you're complaining about is almost a year old. Things change in that length of time.

Apple changed the way the feature worked but did not remove its core function which is (and always has been) to provide data to various iPhone apps. Yes, people used the visible data for other things but those were never Apple's intended use for the data. No one here would know why Apple made the change, though, if I had to guess, I'd say there were security concerns.

You can let Apple, who doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum, know your concerns here:

Sorry but it’s been disabled by Apple,

Contacted Apple who responded with this:

I understand. Steven currently significant locations doesn't not provide the details of each location, this information is a background information for the system to remind important action you did with your device, like pictures taken in that location or similar. Well what I am saying is that with this feature Your iPhone and iCloud-connected devices will keep track of places you have recently been, as well as how often and when you visited them, in order to learn places that are significant to you. This data is end-to-end encrypted and cannot be read by Apple. It is used to provide you with personalized services, such as predictive traffic routing, and to build better Memories in Photos.

Great feature disabled and no intention to restore it.

I finally spoke with Support about this issue today, and it's the same story as some of you have noted. There is no resolution at this time, but that may change if enough of us request a return to the access we once had. The advisor recommended that I submit a request at Product Feedback - Apple (under iPhone) and hope they respond. I'm going to ask everyone I know to do the same thing. Let's hope it works!
