If you have an iPhone - and both iPad and iPhone are signed-in to iCloud with the same AppleID, to send SMS/MMS messages from your iPad you must explicitly enable Text Message Forwarding for your iPad on your iPhone. If you do not wish to receive SMS messages on iPad, simply disable forwarding.

On your iPhone:

Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding - set to OFF - or explicitly disable your iPad from the list of devices.

You might also wish to disable Messages in iCloud for iPad:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > Messages - set to OFF

Hi Estrellagoldens,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you'd like to stop your messages from being delivered on your iPad. We'd like to help.

To stop your messages from delivering to both device, head to Settings on your iPad and choose Messages. From there, turn off iMessage. If you still see details about your phone number and email address, you can then uncheck them.

You'll also want to disable Text Message Forwarding on your iPhone. Head to Settings > Messages to find that option and make sure that your iPad is turned off in that section: How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac

Hope that helps.

Cheers!
