Slow wireless charging after iOS 15 update

Has anyone noticed remarkably slow wireless charging after updating to iOS 15? I use a MagSafe duo charger and I can't even get a full charge overnight. Anyone experiencing this?

And, let me guess, you are using the charger that was delivered with your iPhone SE as power supply for the magsafe charger? This will not work, as this charger only provides 5 Watts. You must use a 20W (minimum!) USB-C power supply for the magsafe, you have to buy separately. Read my previous post.

I had the same problem. Someone wrote here, that since the update the iPhone only supports wireless charging at 7.5W or higher. I did some further research, and this was the solution. My wireless charger (generally capable of charging at 9W) was connected to an insufficient USB power supply that was not capable to provide enough power for a minimum 7.5W.

I replaced my wireless charger's USB power supply to a current model, and now everything is ok.

In Details: I am using the Samsung EP-PG950 wireless charger, that is able to charge the connected phone in standard mode using 5 V/1A, or in fast mode using 9V/1A. When using fast mode, according to the user manual the charger needs USB power supply at 9V up to a current of 1,67A. If the iPhone only accepts charging mode of 7.5W or higher, it will not accept the standard mode of this charger, but only the fast mode. The Samsung EP-PG950 is delivered without power supply, you have to buy it separately. I've had connected it to a cheap USB multiport charger that can supply up to 2.1A, but only at 5V. As the wireless charger needs 9V for it's fast mode and the standard mode is less than 7.5W, this is predetermined to fail.

Of course this is annoying. I don't need fast charging as I use the wireless charger only overnight and had to spend money for a new USB charger and in addition to that for a new cable, as current fast chargers use USB C output. But it was the solution to the wireless charging problem.

Hi,

I have a brand new iPhone 13 pro and since I upgraded to iOS 15.0.1, wireless charging does not work on any of my wireless charges where it previously worked ok.

my wife’s iPhone 12 still works on them but she hasn’t gone to iOS 15 yet.

it seems there’s an issue with iOS 15 to me as rebooting doesn’t fix it.

could someone from Apple reassure us that we’ll get a rapid fix please.

Missy5937,

Having the same issue.

iPhone 12 Pro, Magsafe Charger, Leather Magsafe Case - in case that could be causing higher heat resulting in slow charging?

Updated to iOS 15 on 9/21.

Night of 9/21 to 9/22 - stopped charging at 80%. Checked the energy graph and I could see it reach 80%, then fall slightly and then increase again, etc. So optimized charging stopped it, but for no reason. No change to my routine or anything. It is usually charged to 100% by the time my alarm goes off (set on my phone) for 5AM M-F.

Night of 9/22 to 9/23 - did not even charge past 68%. Checked the energy graph and it slowly charged all night to 68%.

Night of 9/23 to 9/24 - I turned off optimized charging since I need my phone to charge to 100%... Hoping just turning it off and back on a few days later will help correct it. As for slow wireless charging, I am not sure if it will continue.

Also having problems with 2 x XRs and 2 x 13s

Prior to buying the 2 x 13s, my XRs all reliably charged on 4 different types of wireless pads. When we went iOS 15, all 4 phones have unreliable connection to some of the charging pads, resulting in little to no charging taking place on those.

Noticed it's a bit better outside of the cases, but those cases were reliable before for charging.

Doubtful - nothing gets even warm here. Not the phone, not the charger.

IF it's charging (now 1 mm in position change can make the difference! - it used to be almost irrelevant where I placed the phone on the charger), I don't even get a full charge overnight. Last night it went from about 60 to 80 % midnight to 7 a.m.

It used to charge from empty to full in 2 h!

Apple needs to fix this.

After update to 15.3, my phone does not wirelessly charge past 68% on the charger. This had never been a problem prior to the update and remains a problem across various wireless chargers. It charges fine through the cable.

There is no discernible increase in temperature either to suggest it is overheating and that's why it's stopping. Also, if that were the cause, wouldn't it stop, cool down, and then restart charging again?

Hi Missy5937,

With the MagSafe, I always charge my phone without a case on, and it’s still as slow as ever. Charged all night last night, and at 5am it was at about 40%. I left it on just to see how far it would go, and by 7am it was at about 70%. It wouldn’t matter how slow it charged if I could get a full charge by morning, but this doesn’t work at all. I wonder if it’s a software issue that might be fixed with a future update.

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, I use different models of Anker's wifi chargers. I suffer the same behaviour after the latest update, the phone didn't charge over night in the bed charger (Anker Wireless Charger, PowerWave Pad Qi-Certified 10W), now i'm using the Anker Wireless Charger PowerWave Stand and it's charging very slowly. A few hours and it's only on 67%.

my 12 mini is charging fine on a magsafe charger but when it reaches 100% between midnight and 2am it then stops charging all together and steadily drops. I hadn’t looked at my phone until I got to work yesterday and the battery level had dropped to around 50% because according to the battery app it reached full charge at about midnight so had dropped significantly by 8am.
