Why is there no Air Drop option in my Finder>Go window? Both my iPhone and M<ac are on the same WiFi network and both see each other in Bluetooth but there is no "AirDrop" option on my Mac (Big Sur)

Open Finder, preferences, show air drop
What model year is your Mac? If it is not 2012 (maybe even 2014 depending on model) or later, then AirDrop doesn't work with the newer OS versions. But, then I don't think you could install an OS that doesn't work with the legacy AirDrop.
Have you tried creating a new user and see if you have AirDrop in that user?

Progress! I created a new user and, sure enough, Air Drop showed up and works fine in that user. (Booting in Safe Mode had no effect - still didn't show). My laptop is a 2020 MBP so it has all the hardware it needs.
I realize the next step could be to switch everything to a new user account on the machine. I'm not sure I want to risk going through all that just for Air Drop but I'll think about it.

Maybe it is t identifying the hardware correctly. If it is an Intel-based Mac, try an SMC reset.
Have you tried starting in Safe mode and see if Airdrop shows up? Not sure this would help but worth a try..
Interesting. I have never seen this issue before. the only thing I can recommend is to reinstall the OS and see if it comes up.
I would do that except that the problem had existed on Catalina and I just ignored it. I continued to ignore it after upgrading to Big Sur. It had also existed on my earlier MBP last year. For some reason it just drags through to every OS or MBP I get! It's just recently I need it. There are other machines on my network where Air Drop works fine.

Thanks, but no go. Did an SMC reset (yes, it's a 2020 Intel MBP). Air Drop still doesn't show in the Finder Preferences.
