Defect with removal of aliases from custom domain with iCloud

Hi,

I added a custom domain myfamily.com for Family Sharing usage.

From account John I added an email *** @myfamily.com, and realised that Helen should add it herself. I removed the alias from my settings and asked Helen to add it herself from her iCloud.com/settings page. But she failed with error telling that it can't be done, try later. It appears that if email address was added and removed from one family member, it can't be added by another. More than that this alias is not shown in web interface, but appears and can't be removed by any means from Mail app on MacOS and iOS, so you have to cope with the email alias in these apps.

Even removing the domain doesn't help and you can still send an email from Mail app if you stop using this domain as an owner. So if one of the accounts of family members is compromised and you restrict its access to iCloud+ or remove the domain, the account still can be used for sending email from this domain.

Hiya, I'm just saying I have the same issue here, I created a post about before seeing this:

iCloud+ Custom email domain & Family … - Apple Community

I have a support call still open with Apple Support, but so far they keep asking me to do simple things (logoff / back on), it sounds like the Apple Support engineers or their managers do not have the ability to completely remove custom domain aliases to allow them to be used by another family member.

So in your case Helen @ myfamily.com even though you removed that alias, behind the scenes it is still linked to your account, so you can put it back on yours, but no other family members can use it. (it may even still show on your iPhone / iPad if you go into your Apple ID / iCloud, scroll to bottom click on Mail and it will probably still show the one you removed there)

The problem is even deeper. If you owned a domain and had several email addresses with it in iCloud, and transferred these domain to another person, he won’t be able to add email addresses in iCloud that match yours because of f “try later blah blah error”. It seems not the problem of Mail app, but somewhere in DB after email address is deleted, it’s still associated with Apple ID. This should be fixed.

I have an identical problem. As a test of the new custom email domain feature I added a main address & 2 aliases eg.

'f***@bar.com', 'b***@bar.com', 'b***@bar.com' and even after deleting 'b****z' & 'b***r' aliases these are still listed in iOS & MacOS mail clients as available 'from' addresses.

Even more 'interestingly' adding yet another alias 'f***@bar.com' effectively a 3rd alias (4th address) is legal & works for sending email..even after deleting that alias.

I'm 'collecting' aliases on my domain that I now cannot remove.
