Apple Watch

I came back from a walk and went to check my watch for my distance - when I pressed the button on the right it displayed a red image on the left (lightenbolt) and the digital time to the right. Nothing else was available. I put it on the charger and nothing different happened. What and why?

That is power reserve mode;

To turn off power reserve mode,press and hold the side button for about 10 seconds, until you see the watch restart and the Apple logo appear.

Keep in mind that if your battery is almost completely empty, you might need to charge the watch before it will restart normally.
