Unable to link apple id to new macbook air

Hi all,

I've purchased a new macbook air and cannot seem to open my apple id on the new account. I keep getting a notice saying that it could not be verified. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know how to link my apple account?

I've tried resetting the password and restarting the computer - no luck with either of those options.
