Mac mid 2009 15" 2.8GHz 8gb

I am wondering of it can be upgraded to more than 8GB memory, & if El Capitan is the newest OS it will handle?

Thanks!

Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 is the last operating system for any mid 2009 Mac.

Can you clarify exactly which mac you have, click on the  top left of your screen

and select About This Mac.

If it is a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 15 Core 2 Duo 2.8 then the maximum RAM is 8GBs.

Even if it could use more it is not worth the expense of upgrading as it will offer very little benefit.
