USB-C and encrypted thumb drives

I’ve been using an iPad with a Lightning connector for many years, partly for personal and partly for work. For work I have been using an encrypted Lightning Sandisk (ixpand) memory key holding approx.. 300gb of PowerPoints, PDF’s, MP3, MP4 and so on. It has to be encrypted (company rule). Now I have my new iPad Mini 6 (iOS15) it has a USB-C for the first time. I still need to have an encrypted memory key full of work files, so how I do this?

Needs to work on PC and the iPad, and must be encrypted. Is APFS the way? Note I don’t have a Mac.

Thanks! Andy

Hello Andy,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From your post, it sounds like you have some concerns with using external devices that are encrypted with your new iPad. We'll explain as much as we can.

You would need to have an USB-C external storage device of some kind to interact with the iPad. As for the file format, you would need to pick one that works with both the PC and the iPad. APFS might not be able to, but this link will show the formats that will work with your iPad: Connect external storage devices to iPad

If you want to keep your current drive you have, it looks to have USB as well. So, you could get an adapter for the current iPad: USB-C to USB Adapter - Apple

Thanks, and kind regards.
