Confused about iPhone 13 and MagSafe

I might have been living under a rock, but I got my 13 Pro Max today, and the MagSafe seems different somehow. I have several MagSafe accessories that work with it just fine. But so far I have tried 3 different cases that claim to be MagSafe compatible, but when I use them, there's hardly any hold at all, rendering the cases unusable.

I know I could just take the case off, but that doesn't seem very practical... Am I missing something?

Many cases say they are magsafe compatible, but if you don't see the magsafe ring on the back of the case, there's a good chance the case doesn't have magnets for a magsafe charger.

None that I'm aware of. It's supposed to simple and foolproof.

I would agree, but as an example, I previously had an iPhone 12 Pro Max and used 3rd party MagSafe cases with it and never had a problem. If they did have the ring, it was not visible. So I figured nothing would be different with the 13. One of the cases I tried was an Otterbox Symmetry that clearly says it's MagSafe compatible on the package. No mention of a ring, nor were any included.

I'm not sure what else I can offer. I'm not using MagSafe charging on our phones. I'd suggest reaching out to Apple directly.
