Why is a TTY/ teletype logo next to a missed call?

I don’t have TTY turn on, and never have.

When a particular phone number calls my phone, there is a TTY logo next to the phone number on my call log.

I have never answered a call from this number or made a call to it.

Why is the symbol there? Is it saying that the caller was using TTY?

Hi Sparrowsavs,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. We understand you're curious about the TTY symbol that's appearing next to some missed calls you've been receiving. According to Answer or make RTT or TTY calls from your iPhone, this means that the recipient may be attempting to use TTY when making the call.

Cheers.
