"An error occurred loading the update" - while clean install of Big Sur in recovery mode

Dear all,

i have MacBook Pro from 2015 (Model A1398). I decided to make a fresh clean install of macOS (Big Sur) from scratch. However after wiping out SSD (500GB) i was having issue with the installation from "recovery mode".

  1. At the begining i was facing an error which was caused by switching MacBook Pro to the sleep mode. (To me its a bit crazy why MacBook Pro is doing it by default even without any system and SSD which was completely wiped out). I have googled that i should run terminal in recovery mode and via command i should disable this Sleep mode, to avoid later problems during installations (e.g. during downloading 12,5GB image of BigSur..). Otherwise > Sleep mode and after wake up you have to start completelly all over again , incl. errasing again the SSD first. However the command for swithing off the Sleep mode didnt work well as terminal informed that its unknown command "caffeinate -d"
  2. So i went to re-errase my SSD again (i chose basic APFS). No partitions, etc. Just one clean straight forward process. For name i have chosen "MacBook Pro"
  3. I went back to main menu and initiated the start of BigSur installation. During And during the installation process i stayed active, so the MacBook haven't falled into sleep mode. But, just 12 minutes before the finish i have got an error "An error occurred loading the update".

I have repeated this process 2-3x times. Even with SSD formating to Journaled file system. Always with the same error.

Also tried another googled trick (while connected to internet), to check the date via terminal in Recovery mode. Date was current and correct, only the time was 3 hours earlier. I have kept it

If anyone is familiar with this issue, i would be gratefiul for your advice please.

Thank you very much

Kind Regards,

M

I found maybe solution on the internet my self. Issue is described under different name and title but it has same result! Also its not related only to M1 chip and it seems its not related only to 11.0. but also to higher Bir Sur versions (like my example with MacBook Pro from 2015 and which had before removal higher the latest Big Sur version. Also the youtube video on MrMacintosh says the same. Also other people are reporting this). Its real pain in .....

I will try tomorrow...

Was there an existing issue—why did you need to "fresh clean install of macOS " ?

Were you running macOS big Sur before as your macOS?

The big Sur wants to see GUID / APFS

There is nothing new to me. The Recovery mode is pretty straight forward, but i am getting an error as you could see on the picture above. Any clue?

Why: When you giving away the computer you always wipe out the SSD (HDD) and do clean install. Its normal.
