Apple Watch Durability

Will it be safe playing beach volley with Apple Watch Series 7. For example, would it withstand when I quickly land in the sand and in that case, will there be scratch marks?

I wouldn't be confident that your watch would handle that kind of treatment scratch free.

I've had my watch series 7 for 7 days and already have 2 significant scratches on the screen.

Apple's in-store support staff actually classified them as gouges they are so deep.

There was no incident, hit or knock that caused these scratches. I'd only had a chance to wear my watch to work, where I do clerical tasks & at home, with the only exercise I'd done so far being walking. The day that I noticed the scratches, I'd been chilling on the lounge.

This is not my first Apple watch, and my previous series 2 watch had only surface marks/scuffs that I would consider reasonable wear and tear after 5 years of active wear, including camping, beach/water activities and puppy rearing.

Also be aware that even with AppleCare+, scratches even as significant as mine are considered cosmetic and not covered under accidental damage.

Considering the marketing claims around the durability of the series 7 screen and it's improved scratch resistance, my experience would be that it's not fit for purpose as a wearable device.

Look forward to hearing the outcome.

Using a 3rd party screen protector has been suggested in other threads discussing this same issue of scratches without incident with the series 7 watch so I’m going to give that a try but I am also hoping that since it is happening to lots of people that it might be recognised as a fault and rectified.

After asking for a manager or supervisor, the Senior Apple Advisor named ERIC hung up on me (that I spoke with at 2:29pm EDT today on 11/24/21) when I requested to escalate the issue. I started reading online and my situation is the same as what you mentioned here. I only wore my Apple Watch Series 7 aluminum about 6 days out of the past two weeks, purchased 2 weeks ago, already about 4 scratches. My Series 6 has no scratches like that after more than a year of use. This seems to be an issue and I hope that Eric's behavior and the known issue with these watches will be addressed properly and resolved. After hours of attempting to remedy the situation, I'm finally getting help from another Senior Advisor who has not hung up on me.
