Mac and iPhone cannot connect to HomePod mini

My HomePod mini can be controlled from my iPad, but neither my Mac nor my phone (iPhone XR) can connect or interact with my HomePod mini. I’ve tried everything, factory resetting the pod, forgetting the pod in my iCloud devices, deleting the Home app, resetting all devices, updating everything to the newest software. It’s exhausting. Is there some simple trust setting I’m missing here?

Make sure these devices are all on the same wifi network and signed in with the same Apple ID.

  • Signing out and then back in on one or all might help.
  • Reboot your wifi

I think the problem is that I have a mesh wifi network. The HomePod is connected to this wifi - seemingly the main (?) wifi. When my phone is closest to the main router, I can control the HomePod without issue. When my phone is closest to one of the satellite routers, I cannot control the HomePod.

If I am closest to a satellite router and want to control the HomePod, I can disconnect my phone from Wifi and then reconnect. Then I will have a short window where I can control the HomePod from close proximity to a satellite router. After about 15 seconds, I lose control and have to either move my phone closest to the main router or do the above reconnect trick to regain control of the HomePod.
