Stereo pan doesn't work on a specific project.
It works on other projects, but even if I cut and paste a region from another project which pans full left to full right it shows the pan in the automation but still sounds as if it's dead centre.
This is with both headphones and speakers.
If it was to do with my system settings the pan wouldn't work in the other project, but it does.
Output is stereo.

Strange situation. Since panning works properly with other projects it is most likely the project file. The only thing I can think of is somehow the old project ( or Automation) has become corrupt.
Suggestion 1: Check for any rogue automation by hitting the "Subtrack Disclosure Triangle" in the track header ( see pic 2)
Suggestion 2: Delete and redo the automation on the track.
FYI: See the larger attached pic for the location of the channel mode button.
Since it is a MONO channel it needs a plugin to change to Stereo EVEN when the output is "Stereo" to enable the Stereo Pan. For example adding a reverb make sure it is set to Mono -> Stereo ( see pic again). ** I think you have it right.
What is your version of OSX and Logic?
Are you using a MIDI controller?
Have you done a recent update?
Have you tried a Save As for the old project to a new? This can sometimes clean up underlying file issues.

Check and make sure the track is set as Stereo and NOT L, R, Mono or Surround under the Channel Mode Button. When L, R, Mono or Surround is selected the Stereo Pan will not be available.

Thanks for your reply. I was pretty sure I'd tried all the obvious things like that so I double-checked.
Input is mono but output is stereo.
Could you clarify what you mean by Channel Mode Button?
I presume this means on the channel strip?
Below I've pasted a screengrab of two projects with seemingly identical settings. Relevant track selected on each.
The one on the right is the original where (as you can see from the regions) the pan switches from left to right, but the sound (through both speakers and headphones) comes out central.
The one on the left is a new project with the regions and channel strip copied and pasted, so should in theory be identical,
BUT the panning WORKS on this one.
So it's clearly not the settings on the DAW/computer/soundcard.
Must be in the project somehow.
Any ideas?
