Have you attempted to connect using the host IP Address instead of the expected Hostname? You may have greater success of making a successful connection if you do so.

Without delving into the intricacies of IP networking, if attempting to connect to a server using a hostname, your iPad will initially send an ARP request on your network in an attempt to resolve the target server hostname to an IP Address. If no response is received (usually due to incorrect, missing or conflicting configuration), the connection to your server will fail.

When using Hostnames to resolve host IP Addresses, it is essential that your DHCP server is properly configured - especially when attempting to connect directly between client and host devices on the network. If you are unable, or perhaps lack the necessary skills to setup the network, you may find it necessary to configure a static IP Address (instead of an “automatically” assigned IP Address using DHCP) for your server).
