Is there a preferred mount for a motorcycle? I'd like to use my iPhone for a navigator. I've seen where vibration can ruin the camera in the iPhone. There are mounts that include a dampener which is supposed to prevent this. I'm not sure if this works.

I've seen the Quad locks recommended everywhere. Glad to hear it's working for your son. It does seem like a big risk.
