iPhone Reset itself out of nowhere..

I have an iPhone 12 Pro.. Last week I updated to IOS 15 with no issues..

Today I was ordering something in the Home Depot app.. I was checking out and the app crashed and took me back to home screen.. I reopened the Home Depot app and I saw the 2 items still showing in the cart icon.. I hit the cart icon and my phone went black..

It looked like it was rebooting at first, which I never saw happen in all my years of owning an iPhone (it rebooting itself)..

Well, it wasn't rebooting itself, it actually completely reset itself.. I got an email saying activation lock was requesting my password on the phone.. I ended up able to get it to restore by putting in my iPad's password and things started restoring from last nights cloud backup..

The question is, how the heck did this happen!?

Hi tbird2340,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like your iPhone 12 Pro unexpectedly rebooted and we're happy to help! If your iOS or iPadOS device restarts or displays the Apple logo or a spinning gear unexpectedly, "learn what to do.

Check your software

Make sure that your device has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS and that your apps are up to date. If the issue continues after updating your software and apps, check your hardware.

Check your hardware

On an iPhone 6 or later, check your battery health under Settings > Battery > Battery Health.

If your battery doesn't need service, and your iPhone continues to frequently restart or turn off, contact Apple Support.

If your iPad or iPod touch continues to frequently restart or turn off, contact Apple Support.

If your apps quit unexpectedly, learn what to do.

If your device has a frozen screen, doesn't respond, or becomes stuck when you turn it on, learn what to do for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."

Best regards.
