Can I connect my laptop(sony) to my new iMac 27''?

I want to use that laptop as a second display,can i do that?and how?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.4), iPhone 3GS,iPad 3G/Wifi 64G

Hi,

which model is your Sony laptop ?

I don't know of any laptop which has the capability to be used as a display since their own video-connection only supports video-out not video-in.

Have you checked the manual of the Sony whether it can do this ?

my laptop is sony vaio CR model, i think.

and i don't have that manual book cause i lost it so i don't really know whether it can do that.

is there any other way that i can check it?

Hi,

if it is one of these http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151& catalogId=10551&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665291971#specifications then they only have video-out capability.

If not try to find the full model-number of your laptop and lookup the specifications on the Sony website.

But like I said, I doubt that it has the needed video-in capability.

since it seems you cannot connect your Sony directly to your iMac as second display, you might wanna have a look or tryout ScreenRecycler http://www.screenrecycler.com/ScreenRecycler.html

And don't be put off by the name - it's software that allows you to use another machine as a second screen over the network, not a method of ripping the screen out of your laptop!

Yes, that's correct. http://www.screenrecycler.com/help.html

But since JollysFastVNC is a Mac OSX application and your Sony is running Windows you must use a Windows VNC client programm (like the ones mentioned in the Help/FAQ/Troubleshooting section.
