It's not designed to do that. iTunes is for Apple's products.

To manage your phone and to add music to it, consult the documentation that came with it or look online for help with Android devices.

Then you were lucky, but that is confusing since iTunes is - and has always been, designed for Apple products. It has never been designed to work with - or recognise, Android devices.
