My desktop screenshot thumbnails have always opened in Preview on clicking. This has stopped happening and I am having to right click and the Open. Makes this a long winded process.
I'd appreciate ideas on how to restore this setting.

Found the answer. Double click speed was set to maximum. When I slowed it down a couple of notches the files opened!
Try restarting your Mac.
FWIW, you need to double-click on a file to open them.
