Reminders app slow

Since (I think) updating to IOS 15.0, the reminders app is working very slow. It takes a long time to open and show items and is very laggy. Siri seems slow since the update too.

Any idea what would be causing this?

Thank you.

After having this issue for more than 2 years or something like that.. I finally fixed this problem, but you have to be willing to accept the fact that it will delete all your tasks! By starting all over, everything is fast and smooth again and sync will be immediately again.

You can fix the issue by going to Setting > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage > Reminders > Delete Data... and confirm the Delete dialog. After that all your Reminders are gone from your devices, but when you put them back in it is finally snappy again!

Because there is no back-up method for Reminders, I made a "back-up" by making screenshots of all the lists I had. This way I remember what to put back into the Reminders app.

Hope this helps someone else!

You will have backed up before the update I hope.

Assuming you have iCloud reminders turned on...

Settings, your name, iCloud

Turn off reminders

Agree to delete from phone.

Restart phone

Go back to settings and turn iCloud Reminders back on.

make sure you have no VPN or security apps installed.

After that leave it a day then consider restoring phone and restoring from backup

Same problem. Deleting all old reminders seemed to help a little, but the delay is still pretty bad. To do that, go to Reminders, click the “All” box, and there is a button to clear - you get to choose timeframe (> 6 mo, >1 mo etc). In case you’re concerned, if you have recurring reminders, it only deletes the completed instances. Doesn’t impact the ones yet to come.

The same thing is happening to me as well. Weirdly, even the reminder notifications keep lagging. When I long tap the reminder notification to complete or extend it, after I select the option it just decides to stare back at me. Indefinitely. It does not even show the title of the notification after long tapping, it’s just a dark rectangle. And it is so annoying. And when I go back to the Notification Centre, the reminder notification just disappears.

I've been in the same boat for a while and finally decided to Google and see what I found. It takes forever for Siri to set a reminder and a lot of times there's an error. To mark a reminder complete, there is at least a ten-second delay. When I add new things manually, sometimes the time doesn't register and it just puts it at the top of the list. To edit a reminder takes a minute and to search for one takes a while as well. It's very annoying, especially because I rely so heavily on it.
