Transfer time to new iPhone is an hour and a half and still going. Is this normal?

There is no "set" length of time this takes. It can depend on multiple factors including your signal strength and the amount of data being transferred over.

That being said one and a half hours does sound pretty long.

I would suggest to try rebooting both devices and restarting the process.
