Why Apple does not show number of Steps on iWatch faces initial screens?

Tracking Steps is a common activity indicator allowing to get heath and monetary benefits from many health insurances and health plan employer administrators. I was trying to set my iWatch face to show steps and could not find such setting available. So I have to tap and tap on an iWatch to view a number of steps, while competition (like Fitbit) does a much better job displaying steps on initial screen-face.

Is Apple doing anything to add this feature?

Adding that feature as a complication to the watch face sounds like a really good idea. I suggest you make this request directly to Apple:
