iPhone 13 pro lens flare

Are these signs of camera defects with my iPhone 13 Pro Max? I keep getting these lens flares when taking photos and videos with bright sources of light. Happens allot with the sun during day and bright lights during night.

Yes and they're normal. Before you take the photo, you can easily see the flares on the screen. Alter the angle of the phone relative to the bright lights and you can eliminate the flares.

While these two photos were taken on iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can see what I'm talking about.

Simply angling the camera differently without moving at all produced this photo:

This we can agree on. But instead of any camera system arbitrarily deciding what data to capture and what to ignore, Apple could add a new editing tool, which operates like a healing brush, which you could then identify artifacts in photos you want removed. This would give you full control, but not let a system, Apple's or anyone else's license to alter a photo at its inception.

Can I ask you a question? Or anyone else here who can test something for me. If you go to settings and scroll down to the camera app, then in the camera settings you have something now that you can enable to preserve any changes you make to nightmode, exposure, and some other things. When those are enabled it will remember the last settings and changes you made in the camera for next time you open the camera app. That also means if you don't enable any of them the app will reset any changes you made and set them back to default next time you open the camera, so you dont have to do it yourself manually.

My problem is that the camera app doesn't reset the changes like it should, every time I open the camera it will show the last settings I made. This is a bit annoying since it shouldnt do that. I have an iphone 12 pro max with latest iOS, I checked on my moms phone, she has a 12 pro, and her's have the same problem. If any of you can test and see if yours are behaving the same way.

"With iOS12, the Camera app will automatically reset to the default settings every time you exit the app." thats how it used to be for me also but not anymore, no more auto resetting :(

I might call support and ask them if they know anything, this have to be a bug or something.

Hello ~ No…I was referring to this:

**Discussion of Apple policies or procedures or Apple’s moderation of the Site.**

I didn’t see your video link so I can’t comment on that. One thing I would say is if the iPhone you have is not satisfactory sell it and get something else. I myself would never have any device that caused me so much stress and turmoil.

Thank you Deerpark243 - agreed. I am no professional photographer or comment. I think the iphone4 had the best camera for the regular iPhone users and it seems like they’ve gone downhill since then for people that just want simplicity and easy to point and shoot pictures. I’m not trying to stop on the go to become a professional photographer haha. Thank you for being responsive and understanding.

Hello ~ I also participate in a thread that at last check had 116 pages of people that have simply forgotten their iPhone passcode so threads may get very long indeed and for many reasons as well. It is a surety that many of us that participate here in our forum everyday do indeed consider many things before just throwing up a post. We are volunteers who dedicate hours of our time to help many, many people with all different types of problems every single day and none of us work for Apple. So just know we are putting out some of the best information that we can to help you…why else would we do this ?

This is “normal” for you? If this is “normal” well you do your good job in company. This never happens with S10+ or Note 20 ultra. I switched to 13 pro max cos i want a change and i got it. Phone is great, battery fantastic, screen is beautifull (ok Samsung made it), refresh rate great, apps great but .. this little stupid dot is somehow ruined complete picture. Maybe in some software update this little dot will disapear. 😉

I just purchased my iPhone 13 Max Pro one week prior, and of course, I am experiencing the same issue and all of my photos are horrendous. I have no idea how people are getting physics involved. Some of these replies are extremely ludicrous. So all of this flare is now normal?! This is absolutely ridiculous and due to this absurd and continued issue, I will no longer remain an Apple customer. I've had enough of this nonsense.

Yes thats strange, must be the angle or something, but im also surprised the flares are not there on your wide shot. Nice photos though :)

Sometimes you can be lucky that the phone removes some of the flares after the shot has been taken, I know people will say it's not possible but I already explained before that it is indded possible and I seen it several times when testing. You see the flare on the screen the whole way through till the photo has been taken and processed and after when you look at the photo the flare/flares you saw are gone. But it only happens sometimes for me with certain flares, so just have to be lucky.
