Not sure if the theoretical limit is documented, and of course the theoretical limit may differ from the practical limit.

The best way to find out is to launch Numbers, then use File > Open to import one of your .xlsx files, and check out the results.

Recent versions of Numbers can handle large tables (in the many thousands of rows) but Excel is still the tool of choice for handling very large datasets.

Thanks a lot for this reply.

Willing to avoid stress and performance testing I did a quick try to it.

Unfortunately the import solution to figure it out seems too much when applied to an Excel files having more than one Tab (here, 1 xls file with 10 interconnected worksheets). The import-convert progression bar stays at around 20% for (at leas) 45 minutes, no freezing issue. It might work, but I cancelled this import stress test (Root causes will be investigated later on).

As an update:

  • a copy (from Excel) of a "ready to use data for pivot table creation", based on 13_Col * 1920_Rows
  • and paste to New Numbers spreadsheet gave an excellent visual result.

The pivot Table raised is clean, efficient and very reactive.... calculations not checked yet, ...to be continued :-)
