AppleTV 4k is asking to UPDATE APPLE ID SETTINGS and has a red circle with 1

So my ATV4k updated to os15 and now there is an UPDATE APPLE ID SETTINGS button on the Settings page with a red circle and a #1 in it. Like there is one place my Apple ID isn't signed in. I've opened the Settings>User& Accounts and signed out and back into the Store, iCloud, Game Center.

I've also restarted a number of times. Unplugged it. Any other suggestions?

I was able to short-circuit the "Update Apple ID Settings" problem by doing a factory reset on my AppleTV (I selected the option where you reset and download the latest update. I had been up to date prior to the reset but figured, 'Why not?'). I then set up the AppleTV again using the bluetooth method on my iPhone 13PM. Once everything was back up (took about 25 minutes to download the latest update and reset, plus logging in to my Apple ID) the red circle and other quirks had disappeared--at least for the short term. Hope this helps others.

Same issue still happening Dec 9/21 but might have found a solve that doesn’t involve a hard re-set. I had already tried sign in and out of everything (store, icloud, games). But at this particular moment in time I also set up my Apple TV 4K in Home Kit on my iPhone and it appears to have cleared the Update ID Settings message for the first time in months. Periodically there had been a second message under the Update ID to add to Home or some similar nonsense but then it would disappear. I don’t even use Home Kit. The redundancy of this is all quite eye-scratching. Along the way I was also able to re-set-up airplay (which, like others had found, had also stopped working). Anyway, worth giving the add to Home kit a try to clear the stupid thing.

Hi JnSD, We appreciate you reaching out to us. We understand that you are getting a message that "Some account services will not be available until you sign in again" message, but it still shows up even after you logged out and signed back in.

First, we recommend that you make sure that you are using the latest version of tvOS.

While it isn't inherently assured that an update will resolve the issue, updating to the latest version of tvOS for your device can help isolate potential software issues.

Update your Apple TV

Also, do you get any prompt regarding any updates about the terms of use when you sign in on our Apple ID page?

Take care!

Yes, I already called support and the guy said he'd open some kind of issue with Apple and ask them and he would get back with me when he hears from them...and that he doesn't work again until Tuesday...so I have to wait? Its pretty simple. Its a software issue and you need to update your tvOS15.0 and get rid of this bug.

Yea...they really messed up with this 15.0 update. Clearly not much Q&D was done on it. I have looked at Reddit and some suggestions have helped with the issue on folks iPhones or iPads...but nothing specific to the AppleTV. I've tried what they recommended on their other devices and it hasn't helped.

Similarly to most of you, I started having this problem after the last update (or the one right before that, can't remember). The "1" is stuck there telling me I have to "update my ID settings" and I've tried everything I could possibly try but it's definitely the software. Interestingly, this problem leads my TV provider to reply with a message of "you have reached the maximum streams, disconnect one of them..." when the only thing playing is the TV, so it would appear the Apple TV is connecting to something but when it logs out and it's time to log back in again, it drops the connection/won't connect properly. Only after a total reset of my internet, signing out and in several times (probably erasing cache), etc. will the Apple TV work and let me watch TV on my TV.

However, and funny enough, I can watch all the TV I want on my ipad and I can AirPlay to the AppleTV without any problems whatsoever, so obviously the problem is localized to the AppleTV itself and in it, it's something to do with something that was recently changed in the software. You can reach your own conclusions but I think the latest OS for apple TV needs a fix and fast

STILL happening, even nearly 4 months after this thread was started. I had the exact same problem after tvOS 15 was released but gave up trying to resolve it. I’m happy to see I’m not the only one with issues… but still shocked to see that it’s not fixed yet.

Even after the latest tvOS update of 15.2 it’s still not working. So much for the “we will fix it with the next update” answer…

I tried emby’s solution of setting up HomeKit — even though I have no use for it — and that didn’t work. Thx for trying emby! And I, like others, refuse to reset my device. It’s a 4th generation model and still very much supported by Apple, so they need to fix this properly.

C’mon Apple! Fix this already!!
