Copy iPhotos to my new mac mini

Hello,

I am currently trying to migrate my old iPhoto library on my new mac mini. For the transfer, I used a external hard disk (~80Go for the library). My photos are stored in Pictures folder, outside iPhoto and I have copy/paste Pictures folder to the mini.

I compared both Pictures folder and everything is OK.

Then , I db-click on iPhoto library, a message appears and I select Photo option, to convert the iPhoto library to a new Photo library.

After a while, the process is over but when I click on a photo, the photo is missing. I only have thumbs, no photo linked...

The message is "Missing file. Photos with unavailable original files cannot be opened. The original photo is either offline or cannot be found. Click find original to reconnect"

If I click on "Find original", the original file can be found.

Any idea to fix all photos in one shoot?

Thanks,

The best mode to run Photos (and iPhoto before it) was in managed mode, where the apps copies the images to the Library on import.

So: migrate to Photos on the old machine. Then use the Consolidate command to convert your Library to a managed one. Then move the managed Library to the new machine.

Hi,

So, what is the good mode? I do not have see any choice in the migration process.

  1. Copy library and photos from the old to the new mac
  2. Db click on iPhoto library. iPhoto is not present, so Photo is opened
  3. Let Photo convert the iPhoto library to Photo library.

If another solution exists, could you explain/detail it?

I read other posts or articles related to the point and I do not find many solution.

Or are you talking about something else?
