Java 6 from any source, including Apple is 32-bit and unsupported in Catalina and Big Sur owing to their unique 64-bit support. Visit Oracle's Java site and download the current version (Java 8 Update 301) of Java — unless you have done that, and just have not better clarified the issue you are having.

Thank you for the information. I have downloaded job at 8 update 301. When I run terminal and type in Java dash version I receive the message no Java runtime present, requesting install. The pop-up window that comes up as to use the Java command dash line to you need to install a JDK. When I click more info and go to the Oracle website and click on open JDK early access builds, I have no idea what to download. I have requested assistance from Oracle, and at this point in time I have received no response.
You should have an SDK and JRE that have matching builds (e.g. Java 8 301). I haven't dealt with Java for years now, so won't be much help in post-installation efforts to make it work. I would avoid Java early access builds.
Thanks for the information. I don’t know much about Mac or java so I’m pretty much lost here. Maybe just take it to the shop or continue to use chrome.
But thanks again for the information
I guess the question is why you need to install Java. Are you confusing that technology with JavaScript which is used in web browsers, and can be enabled/disabled in the browser settings?
