is the new magic trackpad (the one one sale now, does not appear to have a number) compatible with older 21¨, late 2015 non retina Imac?

Yes, the new Magic Trackpad is compatible with the iMac (21.5" 2015).

I have one running just fine on an iMac (27", 2013) under Catalina.
