Thanks everyone for your comments. My Mac mini and LG 5K monitor are on order from Apple. Excited to get it working when they arrive in a a few weeks. I’m replacing a mid-2014 MacPro Pro i7 with a Windows partition running on Parallels VM. I’ll have a similar setup with the mini.
Enjoy:
Just use care w/ cable section going forward. (Although LG will likely include a Thunderbolt cable in your box - at least they did w/ my pair of 5k monitors a few years ago)
However, unlike earlier generations of USB, not all USB-C cables are the same. The services which a “USB-C Physical Form Factor” cable can provide vary WIDELY.
All Thunderbolt 3 cables are USB-C, but the reverse is NOT true.
Is the LG sold by Apple? Shouldn't need Lunar, then.
Yeah for sure.
Any macs currently for sale would work with the LG 5K display
That’s a 5k Thunderbolt monitor which should work well on your Mini’s “up to 6k” Thunderbolt port.
It’s a nice monitor, enjoy.
And you can also control brightness, contrast and loudness via keyboard with Lunar (https://lunar.fyi/)
MacBook Pro I meant of course
Yes, it is sold by Apple specify to work with USB-C Thunderbolt 3 at full resolution or HDMI at 4K resolution
👍
I have this setup. Connect TB port from Mini to TB port on monitor and good to go.
