Can’t AirPlay music on two HomePod mini speaker

I recently purchased two HomePod minis to add to my bedroom and kitchen with the intent to play music from both at once. When I go into the Music app and click to AirPlay I see both HomePods and have the option to select multiple devices. I select one device and the music plays from that device, but when I select the second device I just get a spinning wheel that times out and am thus unsuccessfully at playing from both at once. Any idea what could be causing this?

it doesn’t matter which speaker I select first, only the initial selection works. I’ve also tried joining them in a stereo pair and still doesn’t work. 1 out of every 5-6 days I try it does miraculously work, but no idea why as I haven’t done anything different.

Hi there Rgfrank,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you're having some difficulties with using AirPlay to play music to your HomePod mini and we'd be happy to help assist the best we can. We would first recommend making sure that the device you are try to AirPlay your music from is completely up to date with the latest software version since the Home app is integrated in the operating system.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update macOS on Mac

We'd also suggest working through the troubleshooting steps listed in the support article below for each HomePod mini and test and see if you notice any improvement in connection.

If HomePod isn't responding

We hope this helps.
