So after the latest iOS update 15.0.2 I now have a reading of 319.33 GB on my 256 GB 12 Pro max which continues to go up slowly. Idk what is going on with this software or if I have a glitchy phone. I know the memory chip hardwired on my phone is a 256 GB capacity chip but now I’m starting to see how Apple can with software updates slow your phone down and slowly lower the percentage of the battery life to get people to pay for replacements or get the newer iPhone. My phone has been working flawlessly and super fast however this glitch in the iOS 5.0.1 update has pulled the curtain up on what apple has the capability to do and are doing. I’ve had every single iPhone since the very first iPhone that changed the cell phone industry. I have the iPhone 13 pro max but continue to use this 12 pro max for work. I hope I’m just being paranoid cause I have spent a lot of money and have been a huge fan of apple since I can remember. Apple please give us the public an article regarding this glitch and what it really means for the ones that have had their iPhones effected by this storage glitch.

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).

Once this has been accomplished successfully, then allow a few minutes and then check storage space again.

Hey Axel! Thanks for the fast response I truly appreciate it. I went ahead and did exactly as you stated and now I got a higher reading. It’s kind of comical to me how the number just keeps getting higher but at the same time it really has me upset that apple has not taken the proper steps to correct this problem. This phone was purchased early September as I knew apple would not be selling the iPhone 12 Pro Max any longer and wanted to have a fresh new one as I have really enjoyed this particular model since it’s debute when I brought my first one. This seems to be a very rare glitch as I have not found any other discussion threads regarding this issue. I don’t know if I should get a replacement but I’m not even sure that apple is still manufacturing this model or carrying it anymore. I don’t want to exchange it for a refurb as I paid cash for this phone and is a brand new phone. I hope apple will introduce a iOS update that will be aimed at fixing the storage reading glitch. My phone is however working extremely fast maybe even faster than before but I can’t say it is because of the issue I’m having with the storage.

This is a “Storage bug” and it has been reported to Apple. There are examples of this bug reported in several posts in this forum and also other parts of the internet. I am one of them who had experienced this bug on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. I can assure you that Apple is working on this and the next update is being tested in beta.

You have the option to have your iPhone 12 Pro examined at the Apple Store and get a resolution, however, my recommendation is to wait for the next update. OR you can do both (Apple Store to confirm the issue and then wait for the update).
